June 8, 2022

As politicians and voters descend on Cleveland today for the Republican National Convention, even more look ahead to its companion event, the Democratic National Convention to be held in Philadelphia next week, July 25–28. The people who live there, the people who work there, the people who will be traveling there for work, pleasure, or a little of both: They’re all wondering how travel in and around the city of brotherly love will be affected. It is expected that the majority of the disruption will be contained to the Stadium District, with the Convention being held at the Wells Fargo Center, but some brief closures may be experienced elsewhere next week.

What You Need to Know if You’ll Be Driving:

Travel will be prohibited, or limited to authorized vehicles only on the roads and streets immediately surrounding the Wells Fargo Center. The following streets will be closed from noon on July 23 until the evening of July 29: Broad Street from Packer Avenue to the Navy Yard; Pattison Avenue from 7th Street to FDR Park; Terminal Avenue from Broad Street to 11th Street; and 11th Street from Hartranft Street to Terminal Avenue. Only authorized vehicles will be permitted to travel down: Pattison Avenue from 20th Street to FDR Park; Hartranft Street from Broad Street to Darien Street; Darien Street from Packer Avenue to Lurie Way; and 10th Street south of Packer Avenue. Coming off of Interstate 95, the Exit 17 ramp onto Broad Street may also be closed. Likewise, from Interstate 76, the eastbound exit ramp for Packer Avenue (Exit 35) will be closed from 2 pm to 2 am daily from July 25 to 29.

What You Need to Know About Parking:

No parking will be permitted in Broad Street’s median between Washington and Packer Avenues from July 24 to 29. Additional temporary parking limitations are possible.
